Brian and Jay,
To my dis-credit, I was actually trying to save money...what I should have been thinking about was saving time (without the coaming re-do I now face) and inevitably my life.
What I didn't think about at the time I committed the error was that the resin from System Three is part of a 2:1 system, and that the hardener from West is part of a 5:1 system. Now it's very clear to me that the West 205 Fast Hardener was trying to cross-link to 2 parts of resin instead of 5 (there wasn't enough resin in the mix). Sometimes I cannot believe how dumb I am, but that's how I learn some good lessons I guess. If I do "experiment" in the future, I'll stick with pairing resins and hardeners with the same mix ratio, like RAKA 350/127 to System Three SilverTip Laminating Resin/Hardener or the MAS 2:1 system, and I'll do a test beforehand to confirm.
Thanks Prasad, as well, for your advice.
Brad
: Maybe his original post was not clear - he accidentally put some 2-1 hardener
: in a 5-1 West hardener jug by accident.
: The world is not going to change if he experiments and finds that he can
: salvage his mixed up epoxy hardener and not spent another $40. to replace
: it. If he hits a good ratio and it hardens great. If it doesn't so be it.
: I would do the same. He's not recommending for people to go out and mix
: brands.
