2nd thoughts - Knee Brace

i/ve had second thoughts - i would do similar to the ndk pic:

the idea of using the lower plane is seductive, and even tho’ I have drawn the same thing on a few occasions, I would not use it in reality.

the main reason for me, is that if the (upper) coaming lip is used to define the downview profile of the thigh hook, there is 1” more volume to pad and shape the underside of the hook to what I wish.

the 2nd big reason is that the extent of the solid hook profile can be slightly reduced, with foam overhanging a bit (say ½”) so that I still get the support - but on panic exits, the brace will flex sideways and provide a slightly larger route out.

the third reason is, as reg alludes, that if the top surface (wide lip) is kept flat, it also serves to support the skirt in the impact area and less of the skirt needs to be stiffened or so strong (if desired).
so basically, more possibilities – as more space is allowed for the more possibilities.

(and heck, if you don’t want to do all that, make it have (double) thickness as above anyway, and put 1” deep ‘letter boxes’ in it – ie for the pogies, or gloves, or thin camera, or paddlefloat or maps or whatever small items.)
