I rescued a stitch and glue kayak from someone who abandoned the project over a year ago. They placed a fiberglass tape keel strip from the tip of the bow to the tip of the stern, instead of from just below the water line at the bow to just below the water line at the stern. So, not only can you see that there is tape along the keel above the waterline, but I am concerned that when I fiberglass the deck it will not lay flat against the hull where it overlaps onto the tape at the bow and stern tips. I would like to remove the fiberglass keel strip down to just below the water line and I am looking for any suggestions on how to do this. Is sanding the only option? Perhaps using a dremel tool with a sanding drum? Thanks.
