: Making it smaller then 12' is a mistake in my opinion. I find my little 12'
: to be great in tight rivers and streams with enough performance to keep up
: with average paddlers on most outings. At less then 7' your modification
: will yeild a VERY slow boat with virtually no tracking and no cabability
: other then very short trips away from shore. You didn't mention if your on
: fast moving rivers like white water boats frequent in which case that
: design might be OK on class 1 & 2 but only good going down stream.
: the Original at 12' by 24" would be a very good first kayak with good
: boyancy to carry an average to small adult less then 175lbs . At 6'4"
: x 24" I doubt it could safely carry anyone over 120 lbs
That is the kind of information that really helps Andrew, thank you. The only reason I figured that I would make it so small, is because of the modern white water kayaks. They have those dimensions and carry 200lb men. I don't live anywhere near an ocean, so I thought I should make a smaller boat for the river. Also I can build a 6'4" boat with 2 sheets of lauan plywood for the hull and the deck. Does anybody have any Ideas for how I could keep the boat smaller and still have a decent tracking boat that will have decent speed?
