If you use the heat gun (knowing that there is glass under the strip) you will probably risk lifting the glass, too! Sand! Use an ROS with 60 grit for aggressive removal, being careful not to remove anything else. Then use something like 100 grit to smooth out any gouges and bumps. Any new epoxy that you put on top of the removed glass will hide any scratches not dug into the wood. Work carefully and change the paper often so that you get a timely removal of unwanted keel strip. Dull or well used sand paper only slows down the job.
