: Hey everyone,
: Any tips for the best possible chance of success? Also, if I can't
: find good bending stock, might it be better to try and laminate the
: coaming?

I've made three coaming from 1 red oak board from Home Depot. The bends in a rib have a tight radius that is more likely to crack, while the coaming bends with their larger radius are much easier.

I always do the following:
1. Soak the wood until fully saturated, usually about two weeks.
2. Bend an oval coaming, egg shaped coamings are more likely break on the tight radius.
3. Leave the wood in the steam box as you draw it out to bend it, so it stays hot.
