: Since I am going to go with an Ocean style cockpit, any suggestions on the
: size? I did a quick look and I didn't see anyone offering spray skirts but
: I am sure they are out there. I just don't know where to look. I have seen
: 16" x 20" size mentioned several times. I have seen what looks
: like a keyhole(?) but is much smaller in Ross's Kayak Foundary. No need to
: reinvent the wheel. So whats standard?

I have to disagree with Bill somewhat, as the defacto "standard" is the VCP ocean cockpit. The dimensions are 15.5" x 21.5" inside 18" x 23.5" outside. Skirts are readily available for them from several manufacturers. Better yet, Brooks will make you an akuilisaq to fit, which I like much better than standard spray skirts. I have 2 VCP boats and made the coamings for all of my SOFs the same size, so I can use the same skirts with them. The only downside to this size coaming is that if you want the boat to fit like a Greenland SOF with a beam/pad just behind the knees, you need to have pretty long legs. If you splay your legs and bend your knees, it will provide great support for almost any size paddler.
