In Response To: Skin-on-Frame: Cockpit rim - tips and suggestions? (Erin Hurst)
Check out page 3 of my "SOF Building Tools and Jigs" album at the link below. Unlike many people, I make my coamings somewhat similar to those on commercial fiberglass boats, only 1" tall with a 1/4" thick rim that's 1/2" wide. The rim is two 1/4" x 1/4" strips laminated to the coaming hoop. One thing to keep in mind when buying material for your coaming hoops is that they don't have to be one piece. I've made several two piece hoops joined with scarfs on the sides. That way, I could get away with coaming stock less than 4" long, which was easier to find than 7' long stock and easier to bend, too.
