To all more knowledgeable than I (which is everyone on here):
In building a Chris Cunningham Greenland Kayak Hybrid with my friend Don Harper, I am finished with the coaming and rim. The deck and coaming riser built with strips (like in Nick's book) have been glassed and a fillet was placed at the base of the coaming riser on the outside of the riser before glassing. I glassed up the outside of the riser and cut off the excess glass. I then proceeded to build the "lip" by laminating on some 1/8" x 3/8" of Ash that was cut flat sawn into strips. Bending it around the front was not easy, so we went with the instructions in Nick's book on cutting it off flush with the front and laminating on extra strips. That went ok and now I am to the point where I have to glass the lip and inside of the coaming. My question is: will it be strong enough if I just glass up the inside of the coaming rim and over the lip but not down around the underside, and just add a fillet on the underside with 2 coats of epoxy on the fillet, but with no glass on the underside of the lip. By the way, I also laminated the ash lip strips together with West System G/glex epoxy, the strongest and most resilient epoxy made today.
Thanks in advance for the replys.
