Haven't worked with veneers at all, so can't offer any suggestions on that - but have you considered staining the deck areas you wish to darken prior to the first sealer coat of epoxy? I've seen pix of a ply deck that's been stained an electric blue, and it looks neat. A search of the KBBB archives for topics involving "staining" could be useful...
