I would like t thank everyone who responded.
I have built a short section - slightly over three feet log by a foot wide "straight back" I currently have just two forms on in with left over strips glued up. I use it to practice on before I make the "move to production" Right now it has two very ugly inlays I'm playing with plus some routed out sections to practice hole repair.
(the whole apparatus mounts on a down draft sanding table... cuts down the dust in the shop)
I'll practice with the cloth under the glass with that form. I'll leave some of the finished glass hanging below and attempt to tear it off of the nylon \ silk material.
Again, thanks to all.

: Surfboard builders do this all the time. Most commonly it's done with a
: Hawaiian shirt type pattern, silk material, and on the nose of long
: boards. The material is laid under the fiberglass.
: As already mentioned, you have an increased chance of delamination and it
: will most surely fade over time. I would only recommend tight weave, thin
: cloth like nylons or silk. Also, I would think an accent piece would be
: better than a large area, a large area is more likely to fail and have
: problems. Do a test on a piece of plywood and see if you like the result
: and how well it adheres.
: Hope this helps,
: Scott
