There's footage in "This is the Sea" of a cowboy (cowgirl, actually) entry done because of a difficult launch. It's right inshore, but still less than flat water. She's damn quick, though, and practiced enough to brace simultaneously with dropping her butt into the seat.

So practice a lot, then test it out in rough but safe conditions.
