You'll be glad to hear that I finally ran my little not-so-scientific abrasion test of the hBN. I tested it with 5 other opaque coatings and 6 clears. In my little test it appears the hBN performed exactly the same as the West 423 Graphite. Impressive. It needs full-scale testing to really see how it performs in the real world. The next kayak on my build schedule will be used as a testbed. I'll also be coating my own Guillemot with it for more testing.

By the way I also tested a few other coatings. 12 total: 6 opaque and 6 clears. All were marine or commercial in nature (no hardware store brands).
The two-component urethanes (clears and colors) performed much better than the single pot paints and varnishes. Not really surprising. The best performing clear was actually an automotive urethane (DuPont ChromaPremier 72200s with flex additive). Stay away from the waterbornes... Again, not surprising.
