: I am finishing up building a Shearwater 17 (a stitch and glue kit) and am
: pretty disappointed with the seat they put in the kit. It is a basically a
: styrofoam pad. Is there a better seat out there that anyone could
: recommend to me.
Personally I really like my carved minicell seat, cut out of block of foam I think 3" thick.
Btw, if you make a light wood box frame to capture the foam you can clamp that box to a workbench, makes it a heck of alot easier and perhaps safer carving the foam. A 4 1/2" angle grider works really well at carving the foam and it's fairly fast too, but does tend to grab the foam, the reason for the above mentioned box. Run your vacuum hose to the area your grinding, otherwise makes a horrible mess with foam dust everywhere, dust blower hose is even better. Cut a little, and trial sit on it, then cut some more. Shouldn't take more than maybe an hour to get a shape that's very comfy.
