: Personally I really like my carved minicell seat, cut out of block of foam I
: think 3" thick.

: Btw, if you make a light wood box frame to capture the foam you can clamp
: that box to a workbench, makes it a heck of alot easier and perhaps safer
: carving the foam. A 4 1/2" angle grider works really well at carving
: the foam and it's fairly fast too, but does tend to grab the foam, the
: reason for the above mentioned box. Run your vacuum hose to the area your
: grinding, otherwise makes a horrible mess with foam dust everywhere, dust
: blower hose is even better. Cut a little, and trial sit on it, then cut
: some more. Shouldn't take more than maybe an hour to get a shape that's
: very comfy.

Was thinking about how I did this, did it last spring so memory isn't perfect :)

I made a 3 sided box using 1x3's to hold both sides and the back of the seat, these don't get carved and a 3/4" square side for the front, that does get carved where your legs would be. Even though it looks strange, it's quite comfy if you have a ridge between your legs that is pretty much un-carved. You really don't want or need much depth where your butt cheeks are, mine is perhaps 1/2" thick there.

I'm going to do another of these this spring for the NDK Greenlander (stock seat is the pits) so I'll try to take pictures. Would have been nice if I could have used the same seat for both boats but the Greenlander has much less V in the bottom than the Disko Bay has.
