I agree with Brian. I also laminate coamimgs for the SOFs I build . 1/8" white oak strips about 1" wide. 3 layers with Gorilla glue results in a 1/2" thick coamimg. 3 more layers 3/8" wide a 1/2" lip. Strong, good looking, works great.

: IMO, it's silly to build a boat with a nice, low aft deck, then put a tall,

: easy to lay back on. I make my coaming hoops 1" high and build up the
: lip from 2, 1/4" x 1/4" strips. That leaves 3/4" under the
: lip, which is plenty for any type of spray skirt, akuilisaq or tuiliq to
