: ROFLOL I will remember that.

: I have some BIG chunks of WRC. My boat is being stripped from a recycled
: diving board. :) I have a second one in my barn too. I think this might be
: old growth wood? It's either 8 or 9/4 x 13" Not a knot in it either.
: Wish I could find some more! May save the other one for paddles since it's
: so clear. Really hate to use it but I was saving it for something special.

Why waste a good, large, clear, old-growth board. You can get plenty of wood for very little $$ at the local lumberyard. You should be able to find a 1x3 with well-spaced knots, and then hack out the clear sections between them. Or jsut glue up a few scraps from your strips. These are really very small areas you are working in. Thin trimmings will work just fine.

One tip: You might want to fit the piece which rides against the walnut now, instead of making it the last piece to go in. Then work back to center. Your final strip will probably be thin, so you might as well use one which has straight edges. Or, if the final gap is, say, 1 inch, and you are working with 3/4 inch wide strips, you may wish to substitute two 1/2 inch strips rather than use one which is 3/4 and another which is 1/4.

About this time are you giving any thought to doing the other half of the deck with piece of plywood? As I recall, you were wondering why anyone would want to go that route. Now that you are engaged in the time consuming fitting of those little pieces, can I tempt you to try something which is much faster? I'll ask you about this again--probably sometime in the middle of when you are trying to sand all those parts smooth. Just wondering :0
