I had to fix the broken bow on one of my baidarka designs because the fellow waxed the kayak and it slid off his roof rack onto concrete.

I wouldn't want to try to grab or re-enter a waxed boat in a rescue.

Your boat won't slide though the water any faster but it will slide through your hands when you try to carry it.

Slick wax and water don't mix in my book.

And when it's time to apply a new coat of varnish I wouldn't want to guess if I got all the wax off.
