:Surfers wax the tops (part they stand on) not to make it slick but to make it sticky! The wax is layed on thick and gummy with sand rubbed in for added traction. Look up "Sex Wax"

Hi Andy,
Ah, a mix-up of jargon, I think. The couple of surfers I know call that 'tack'. They also wax the bottom of the boards.
