Ah yes, inertia is the friend of ballast and ballast is the friend of stability.

When you say you put the weight in the bow, I hope you mean against the fore bulkhead.

Added weight, be it ballast or gear, is best placed as close to the cockpit as possible AND balanced, that is distributed to maintain the correct trim of the hull.

Weight near the stems will negatively effect handling.

Catch a lunker!
