Hint. There is no general consensus. Suggested paddle lengths have been getting shorter and shorter over the last few years. When I first started kayaking, I used a 230 with a mid-sized blade. Now, 220cm seems long. I currently paddle most of the time with a 201cm paddle with a big blade, but am in the process of demoing a 210cm with a mid-sized high angle blade. I've found that 215cm feels long, but 201cm feels short on anything but a couple hour paddle. My primary boat is 22" wide.

It also has to do with conditions, when playing in the current and waves in river mouths or in surf, I like my 201cm. But in chop or swell, I like a longer paddle.

And then there are Greenland paddles. :)
