The trouble with skin coatings is that with the exception of Coelan Marine Coating, nothing is designed to coat a flexible skin like a qajaq. (You could make the case that the Spiritline goop is designed for skin as well, but it started life as a concrete coating, or that oil-based paint is as it's been used on canvas for centuries...) It's all a matter of trial and error.

I do know of people who have used the Gaco Western roof coating and had much less than stellar results. It's expensive and none of them say that they would use it again. I only mention it because the liquid rubber looks a lot like a roof coating.

If you're in the market to experiment, you might want to look into this industrial coating By Fox. It's a waterbased polyurea that seems by description to be similar to Spiritline. Water-based doesn't necessarily mean non-toxic, though...
