I took the extra day to precoat the assembled panels on both the S&G boats I built, as other than an extra day, I could not find a reason not too. And I had read too much about problems that can occur if you don't. That said, I would take the time to precoat on any boat I built using epoxy and fiberglass.

I hope this is useful, plus I am interest to learn if there is any disadvantages of a thin precoat of epoxy prior to installing the fiberglass. Perhaps additional weight is a disadvantage - but I wonder if in the end there is not as much epoxy used even if one does not precoat!?
