: Have no idea whether or not this would actually assist us in tracking
: straight, what size/shape the skeg ought to be, how far aft it should be
: placed, etc. If you know this to be simply a bad idea, please tell me that
: so I don't waste my time. Any advise or experience to share in this regard
: would be appreciated.
the simplest thing to do would be to just epoxy glue on a 4'x 3/4" wide x 3/4" deep (or similar in laminations)strip along the rear part of the yak. preshape the pc so the section is sorta triangular rather than a square.
see how works and if tracks to much, trim back bit by bit, if not enough, add some lams.
relatively easy to drag up on shore rather than a typical skeg
then when skills are up, just plane off - there will be lots of glass and epoxy glue to estimate when to stop as the whole boat hull is kept sound. or heck, colour the glue so you know exactly where, when to stop. or if real temporary, just hot glue.
