As a minor aside, Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) is actually a member of the cypress family and is not a true cedar.
Whatever the scientific truth is, as far as I'm concerned it is the One True Cedar and the rest are just jealous wannabees. Yes, growing up in the northwest US just may have colored my feelings in the matter.
