And white cedar is why there are canoes? Well then I guess you've never seen a Haida canoe carved from a single WRC log. Come on up to Skidegate in the Queen Charlottes (Haida Gwaii) and have a look at Loo Taas (Wave Eater). And while you're there, see some of the magnificent old and new WRC poles.
Seriously, much of my fondness for WRC is very personal, fortified by its cultural importance along the coast. Plus it smells great and, to me, like home. However I've never worked with your Eastern White variety, so I'm starting to think there's a winter project taking shape here. Got a good source for the stuff?
