: Hey All,
: so about a year and a half ago I acquired two big hunks of metal from a
: company that I worked for who produced, machined, and finished commercial
: wood doors out of NJ. When a shop has to finish a door theres always a
: dilemma, how do we finish both sides quickly and carefully. So many years
: back someone came up with the door rotisserie. It's basically a stand that
: you lay the door down and then screw the top and bottom into one of these
: "spits". When you're done sanding and finishing one side you
: flip it over and do the other.....Genius!
: So why can't I apply this to kayak building and finishing?!?!?
: well I was bored so I did. I was given one of their surplus stands (these
: were all custom made many years ago by a bunch of high school metal tech
: students)
: Check out the pictures and you can see how it works.
: I used it last night with a coat of epoxy, I coated one side and then gave it
: a few hours, flipped it and did the other side. It worked quite flawlessly
: I might add, I have it held in place with some all thread and held in
: position on that thread by a couple of bolts and washers. Its actually
: very sturdy to my surprise, I think this is because of the decent amount
: of weight the stands have on them. I'm probably going to use this to
: varnish or spray finish the kayak.
: Let me know what you think

Hi Pat,
Cool, seen that method used on big boats for glassing (takes a HUGE stand) and on car bodies for painting, also a fairly large stand. Thought about that for kayaks, but have too many tools already, tripping over them .
