I am a hand tool guy too. I have lots of hand planes, scrapers, files, rasps, ect. Not opposed to hand tools at all! I love hand planes and the actually planing. For many jobs I prefer hand tools.
But I can get a good scarf joint very quickly with a power tool. My RAS takes about 1 minute or less to clamp the jig on. Most of that time is spent finding the jig and a clamp.
The sled for my table sled was as simple as sliding it in the miter slot. Of course I have to build a new one now that is safe to use. That one was just a bad design but a good idea.
My shop is dedicated to woodworking, not a garage shared with cars so that is a HUGE advantage. All the tools are ready to go. One cut and the joint is done. Cut another and no fitting, they match perfectly.
Don't get me wrong, I love hand fitting with a plane. I can spend an hour making a part just right so that joints don't show. Just not scarf joints when I can do them in seconds with a power tool.
