: Thanks! I would encourage you to build your own boat for sure. Lots of work

: I did both paint jobs about the same. After final sanding of boat I used and
: a wooden jig to get the correct spacing as the paint wraps up over the
: deck about half a inch and used a pencil with the jig to run a line all
: the way down the boat. Then taped off the deck right to that line. After
: paint was cured and wet sanded I then taped off the paint to varnish the
: deck. No overlap.

: If your gonna build a S&G I would suggest building from a kit your first
: time. The Merg was my second build but CLC(my first boat) puts together a
: top notch instruction book with the kit that really does a good job of
: giving you all the tips you need. This forum was also a great resource for
: me.

I might point out that CLC's Shearwater is 'just about' a Merganser - same guy designed both!
