Now that we're sharing tips, just a note to help those who paddle tides.
Something similar happens when you are crossing the direction of tidal flow. The solution is to use the tide to your advantage as it will go one way then the other. By balancing time going one way against time going the other way you can paddle on the compass bearing straight to the place and let the tide do the correcting.
