Each end form extends 2' from the end of the strong back, making it an 18' boat.
The forms at the ends (2&17) are cut out to fit over the strong back, so the width of the forms does make up the extra inch.
I appreciate the responses, it's good to have a sounding board, and most of the people I know get glazed over eyes when I start talking about kayak building.
