Allan's diagram is very helpful. I'm pretty sure I ended up with a 14-foot strongback because my end forms straddled the strongback instead of butting up against it. 10 1/2 inches between forms 10 and 9 means something is wrong.

Also note that the stem forms do not extend a full two feet beyond the forms at the end of the strongback. They are sized so that the completed length of the kayak is 18 feet (including the depth of the external stems).
