This is my first strip built kayak and getting to the short of it; I am working with inner and outer stems. I tappered the inner stem to receive the strips as they came forward but am afraid I didn't plane a sharp enough angle. The inner stem and strips are just about an inch wide, just slightly wider than the outer stem. I know better now. My question is do I leave this alone or try to fix the problem? After looking at it for a few days and sleeping on it, I think I have three or four options but would like to hear from others. I could leave it be and sand to a snubbier point, I could make a new, wider thicker outer stem, or I could carefully rip the existing wide stem with a saw (scary but possible) between the two sides. The rip would give me, in two passes nearly 1/4" of reduction. I could then epoxy the two seperated sides back together. This sounds like it could work. The theory sounds plausible but will crazy things happen? Any thoughts? Other than this the process is going well.
