Otherwise a system that has served me very well over the years is pictured below. The back rest is cut from a left over bit of cockpit cutout and padded with camping mat foam.

It is attached to the bulkhead with a rubber windsurfing universal joint. This allows it to take up whatever angle your back naturally likes.
