I can be anal about some things, but think I'd let this one slide. There were compound twists towards the ends of the Guillemots I worked where I could barely get (and in some cases did not get) the strips to meet the forms, yet to see the finished product, you'd never know that. In general terms, having the forms spaced slightly further out, you're giving yourself a slightly rounder boat. The stems are going to be slightly less pointy. We're talking very slight! Others might suggest differently (and might be right), but I don't believe you or anyone else would ever see the difference, and doubt that it will have significant effect on the boats performance on the water. Just my two-pence worth.
