What you can do without changing Nick's lines at all is to chamfer the edges of the forms (where necessary) to conform to the slope of a strip at each form. Using a plane and/or spokeshave this won't take as long as you might expect. It will let the strips fit tightly against the forms as you near the ends of the kayak. Putting it another way, the sides of the forms closest to amidships will conform to the designer's lines.
