: Any idea how they do this?

Only a guess, but gotta figure that the knob either 1.) acts as a toothed gear to drive an sliding element, or 2.) a cog that spins a larger receiving reel beneath the deck. Either way seems a more complicated and space consuming route than I'd prefer to take. Having practiced my rodeo re-entries, I've really come to appreciate a clean and clutter-free deck. Granted this mostly effects the rear deck, still don't think I want to contend with a knob protruding through the deck, nor do I wish to recess the larger area that the knob would necessitate.

Still working (thinking) on something (spring like) that the drive cable can be attached that will bind to or engage on a fixed stainless steel rod at all times until it's pinched, in which case it can slide the length of the rod. I know there's something somewhere in my house that does this, but right now it eludes me. Still open for thoughts and ideas.
