: As I look at the posts for strip and S&G, I notice the seats are large foam
: masterpeices while SOF tend to be a peice of camping mat. The reason for
: the camping mat is the lower center of gravity. Why don't strip or S&G
: need as low a center of gravity? What am I missing?

Mostly I think what you've missed is the width dimmension of the boats you're looking at. Most S&G and strip boats are in the 21" to 23" range and alot of the SOF designs are very narrow, mine is fairly wide at 19 1/2". Initial stabilty is pretty tender on these very narrow boats unless you're sitting right on the bottom. You can get away with a little extra height above the bottom with a slightly wider boat. The "big" foam seats though are mostly carved away so you should be only about 1/4" - 1/2" above the bottom sitting on them. Takes some time to get them carved without going all the way thru them, at least mine did
