As good as an idea as that is, my lumber is too large and too heavy; 2 book-matched pieces 1.5" x 24" x 72". Each one probably weighs 50 lbs. They will be joined to make a table top. With alternating grain, Sapele suffers significant tear-out with edge tools, joiners included. I thought about making an angle iron jig for a router but I need the belt sander anyway. I bought a DeWalt based on reviews in Fine Homebuilding and so far it is going fine. Frequent stops to mark the high spots with a 4 foot ruler slows things down. But it seems to be working.
