I suggest that you do a search for the guy who's using monofiliament fishing line to do stapleless construction. The basic idea is to drill a bunch of holes in your forms, then use fishing line to hold the strips in place. It's ancored at the shear, pulled tight over the strip. fed through the hole and tied off.

I haven't tried this but it looks like a good experiment. You'd go through some line, but it would avoid most of the staple/nail holes and might hold the strips truer to the forms.

Maybe this was in Woodenboat magazine or someplace, but I know the info is out there.
