There is more than one way to skin a cat :D :D :D

The usual and quite robust way is to do the saran wrap test. Here in New Zealand we have namebrand gladwrap (you guys must have similar stuff called saran?. If you wind that tightly in a helical fashion from bow to stern with say 1" overlap. That results in a multi-layer watertight skin which should be enough to test your craft.

A chap down the road from me, John Callaghan taped on one layer of thick plastic wrapping. With duct tape that worked fine too.
