Thanks to all for suggestions - I've ordered some of the packing shrink film as suggested by Tom and hopefully that will hold long enough. I think it is basically a smaller version of pallet wrap, more beefy than saran wrap. If anyone is curious, it is item 20915T71 from McMaster-Carr, and has the bonus of coming in various colors.
