Hi,

It works for larger openings, but not so well with smaller ones. This pic is me getting inside my kayak. Note how far my hands are so I can put my legs inside.

My kayak also has two cord loops at chines aft deck so I can slide the paddle there and use it as a stabiliser without hands. Similar can be done for EP too, glue two u-shaped wood pieces to deck, velcro tape or such to middle. It's then possible to attach the paddle tightly as an outrigger.
