: Just finished my artic tern 17'(novice builder); so far 3 coats of varnish.
: I'm going to finish with five coats then going kayaking. My questions are:

Btw, some may disagree but you should only sand varnish wet. You leave too deep scratches to fill when sanding dry and it's hard to get rid of the sanding dust.
