Epoxy: Whats the difference?

I have used West System epoxy on a couple of small jobs over the years and reading a couple of books (Nicks included) I think that I want to use epoxy rather than "Poly". My question is, how much (if any) difference is there between epoxy brands?
I have noticed a couple of different brands available and West System seems to be the most common but also the most expensive (in South West England anyway).
Any advice would be welcome.
