I've been in e-mail contact with Brian. I know that the design won't work as was intended, and for that reason, will only refer to it as 'interpreting' his design.
The reason that I'm going with the F1 design is because it's totally new. I've been enjoying the challenges of how to make this work with modern construction. Having more ownership of the project without the normally prerequisite years of experience building and designing is great. If I can make a boat that floats and goes straight, and took a LOT of original thinking to build, that will be the sort of gratification I'm looking for with this project.
That said, your website is an amazing resource and I'd like to thank you very much for maintaining it. At some point, I will try building one of your designs. I'd love a longer boat in SOF with the transparent vinyl skin. I at first thought one boat would be enough... how naive!
: Hi Michael,
: I just got around to reading your threads about building Brian's
: F1 design using the non - traditional building techniqes from my
: e-manuals. I'm concerned that this is not what Brian intended.
: Have you discussed this change of construction with him ? I mention this only
: because Brian seems especially concerned about design integrity.
: This is not an issue with my 20 or so designs as the exact offsets and
: cross section spacing I provide virtually assure an exact reproduction
: of my designs when using the non - traditional SOF construction as
: detailed in the three e-manuals.
: Regards,
: Tom
