I didn't see this before but I just did a little bit of measuring and am psyched! I'd just sort of assumed that I'd need to make a stern stem that would miraculously hold the chines swept up in a position which Brian says should put the chines to the point of breaking. I was only able to imagine the sort of complicated clamp slipping, knot failing, screw pulling, splinter flying hell that awaited - especially considering that my furthest aft section is at 11ft - two and a half feet ahead of the end of the chines.
I just pulled up the diagram on GIMP, and it's telling me that the distance from the top of the gunwale to the bottom of the chine at 13' (right at the stern) should be 3.9". I went downstairs and what do you imagine, the actual distance is 4" give or take an 1/8" (it's 1 A.M. right now, and I'm done with precision!)! The cross sections have naturually brought the perfect sweep! I have a good shot of getting this thing on the water by the weekend after the coming one. If you're contemplating a tricky design with Tom Yosts's technique, go for it!
: Stern is another matter entirely. Pieces don't come together at all - this
: boat wasn't designed for this construction method and here's where it
: shows. This part is going to be very very tricky since the chines are
: supposed to sweep way up. It will be up to the stem to hold them there.
: I'm not sure how I'm going to make this work, but everything else is going
: together very nicely, so I'll have to find a way.
