: I've just completed installing my Deck beams including masic and knee brace.
: The beams all seem good and secure after pegging in place. If I try
: twisting them it is pretty dificult. The masik, on the other hand can be
: twisted a bit. After lashing all beams into place they are even more
: secure but the masik still moves a bit. I am not sure if this is normal.
: Since it is a longer board and is not straight one can get more torque
: when twisting it. The knee brace, on the other hand, is nice and sturdy.
: I'm wondering if I should redo the masik or continue on. Any comments
: would be appreciated.

Hi Peter,
It's fine, unless there's a lot of movement which would mean the pegs aren't a good fit or the mortise (if used) is slightly loose fitting.
With using a knee brace beam, that will be your main leg contact with the kayak. The masik in this case will be only supporting the coaming.
Without the skin on, there will be some movement. Once skinned, everything is more locked in place.

The masik on my greenlander was 'loose' before I skinning but it's stable now. I use the masik in the initial pick-up of the kayak, even though the balance point is closer to the backrest beam.

Hope this helps,
