it makes more sense to use the amount of material needed than to use a lot of material and make it less dense. On the last few s&g kayaks I didn't make end pours as much as I combined the deck/hull gluing with angled "end pours".
Before running tape into the ends I set the hull on it's side,elevating the end and poured 2oz of epoxy down the deck/hull seam into the end where it formed a small "end pour" at an angle. Then I'd run the seam tape down to the ends, when it cured turned the kayak over and repeated the same.
That way the amount of epoxy in the end was kind of a v shape with the maximum amount along the seam and just deep enough for me to drill a hole through for a grab loop.
Then I'd round the heck out of the ends cutting off at least an inch then rounding over.
Simply pouring a bunch of goop into the ends requires a lot to fill what is essentially the base of a pyramid.
Sticking a block of wood into a couple oz. makes even more sense.
