Many solvents are reclaimed and contain contaminates that can cause problems with your finish.

The best way to prep for varnishing is to wet sand with 220, and wipe the surfaces down with a wet sponge. Go over the surfaces with clean water until no sanding residue is left.

The epoxy sometimes gets a static charge from all the sanding that will attract dust no matter what you do. If this happens don't worry. The second coat will go on without dust after you wet sand the first coat.

The best advise I can give you about applying the varnish is to start by using much less than you think. Everyone starts by using too much varnish and then wonder why it drips and runs. Start by using very little varnish, then if you have dry looking spots you can add a little more to your brush on the next coat, until you get a smooth drip free surface.

Good luck.
